Seraya Partners portfolio company, Empyrion DC Pte. Ltd. (“Empyrion”), has appointed Yongsuk Choi as its Chief Strategy and Infrastructure Officer, with the Seoul-based executive tasked with owning the strategy and infrastructure blueprint in driving green digital infrastructure growth across Asia Pacific.

Mr. Choi is a veteran of the data centre industry, and he brings over 25 years of leadership experience in the technology sector. Throughout his career, he held various regional and global roles in APAC, including infrastructure operations, terrestrial fibre and undersea cable investment, data centre site selection, infrastructure M&A. Most recently, Yongsuk was the co-founder and Chief Infrastructure Operations Officer at Digital Edge and Director of Infrastructure at Facebook/Meta. Prior to that, Yongsuk held various leadership positions across the APAC region and Emerging Markets at Yahoo for infrastructure operations and strategy.

Effective immediately, Mr. Choi will drive Empyrion’s strategy and infrastructure blueprint to capitalize on the increased demand for digital infrastructure regionally, with a specific focus on investing in and operating key green physical assets of the digital infrastructure ecosystem.

Specifically, this includes cloud, content, hyperscale and enterprise scale data centres as well as network and fibre assets, leveraging the capital and resources of parent company Seraya Partners, one of Asia’s first Next Generation infrastructure funds.

“I have every confidence that Yongsuk will lead the successful implementation of Empyrion DC’s strategy and infrastructure blueprint as we move full speed ahead to build out our platform and meet customer demand,” said Mark Fong, CEO of Empyrion DC.

The appointment of Mr. Choi as Chief Strategy and Infrastructure Officer follows from Empyrion’s inaugural investment into the SG1 Dodid data centre in Singapore last October, done in conjunction with co-investors of Seraya Partners, as well as more recently the August 2022 announcement that Empyrion is developing a green data centre in Gangnam, Seoul.

Mr. Choi commented: “My experience and capabilities in both data centre and network will add extensive value to the Empyrion platform, supporting our goal to become a key player in Asia’s sustainable digital infrastructure industry. We will bring global best practices from my experience at Digital Edge, Facebook/Meta and Yahoo! to lead Empyrion to become the most efficient and effective infrastructure platform across the Asia Pacific region.”
